What is it like to be gay where you live?
I live in the south of Brazil, I'm 21 years old and I'm bi. I would say that although it's a very conservative region, I still think it's safe for LGBT people. I'm from a relatively small city, and when I go to the neighboring city, I end up seeing a considerable number of gay couples together. The younger generation seems to be more open to it.
However, there is still a lot of homophobia, a lot of religious people, and the state I'm in was the one that voted the most for the former president, who has said several openly homophobic things. I'm out to my family, but they generally have a hard time understanding my bisexuality and how it works, and they have a more conservative mindset. But other than that, we have a good relationship, and they still love me despite that. But I'm a little curious, what's it like being gay where you are now? Is it accepted? Is there a lot of homophobia? How do your family and friends deal with it? Would you say it's safer to be gay there or not?
